Crown Imperial, The Cat, & The Hummingbird

Today Mom pointed out these really cool seed pods on her Crown Imperial, Fritillaria imperialis:

The Cat was acting up today. She escaped to the out-of-doors. See, she had a boy cat that had been snooping around until Dad told him to hit the street – she’s fixed, so what’s the use in the whole thing. Since Dad was gone, she thought she could sneak out and sniff around where big boy had been. This was taken before she stepped out:

After our day of gardening, we walked around all of the gardens to see / check up on everything, and saw a hummingbird feeding on the coral bells. Sorry no picture – the camera was in the house – yes, I know, it should be hanging on my neck at all times. Here’s photos and information about the Ruby Throated Hummingbird Archilochus colubris, the only type of Hummingbird we have in this area, from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website. It squeaked as it flew away. That sound is so precious.
