American Goldfinches & Echinacea

I’ve been seeing the American Goldfinches (Carduelis tristis) eating Echinacea seeds all day. Here’s a couple of photos through my window screen of two males that have been hanging around:

This one isn’t as good because I took it from the side so I could capture the Goldfinch. Unfortunately it’s a better shot of the screen than the Goldfinch:

    Hi there. We live in the Canton, Ohio area and enjoy our finches immensely. From what I can find on the net, the finches go south in the fall. One site said predominantly S.Carolina. Could you clarify this for me. The place we buy our feed says they stay for the winter. Right now they are stuffing themselves. We have 2 feeders and they are full of birds battling for the last bite.
