Bandit, the Burrowing Owl

Meet Bandit, the Burrowing Owl:

AZ-2007-03-20thru29 285

I fell head over heels in love with this birdie when he looked me square in the eyes and gave a little hoot. I tried several times to get him to hoot when I was running video mode on my camera, but there was too much background noise. We met Bandit at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum on Saturday March 24 where there was a big display of injured birds (sniff). The group that was presenting the birds they had saved is the Adobe Mountain Wildlife Center.

Bandit was found in Buckeye, Arizona on June 22, 2006 at about 6 weeks old. He has a fractured right wing and right leg. He may have been hit by a car (sniff sniff).

Here’s one of the videos I took of my little love:

I have so much more to share, and will as I get time!

My Dad is improving every day. I’m able to post today because I got up real early. I’m still not going to be able to post regularly for a while. Bummer, because I have so much to share!

The last time I saw a burrowing owl was atop a prairie dog hole, never thought I would see one in a flowerpot! Very cool video.

Glad to know your father is doing better. Happy Easter!

I’ve just discovered your beautiful blog at Hasty Brook. My heart goes out to you. The loss of a cherished father is one of the deepest hurts we experience. Time, time . . . . and eventually happy memories will help soothe the ache. For now, only tears and gentle Spring rain and the arms of loved ones will carry you forward. May you find comfort in these.
