Day: July 3, 2007

Happy Independence Day!

As I’m sitting here thinking of what to write to wish you a happy day, my mind runs in a million directions, but it comes down to what this day really meant back in 1776, and what some of my ancestors and many, many other people’s ancestors went through to win independence for this country. So here’s a photo of a favorite tombstone of mine, one of my revolutionary war ancestors, who in his Rev. War Pension Application stated when he was an older man, among many other things, that he remembers seeing General Washington at Westpoint and General Huntington at VerPlanks Point.  Jabesh Cole is buried in the South Onondaga Cemetery in South Onondaga, Onondaga Co., NY.

BTW, we worked our butts off three years ago to scrub his tombstone clean like it shows here. It was almost black, and with quite a bit of hard work, we uncovered a beautiful marble stone. And it still looks this way today!

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy July 4th!
